Replacing unwanted behaviors with acceptable ones through the power of PLAY
Learning to train using “Dog Language”
Hydeia Williams, owner of Helpful Play Dog Training, believes in working with the dog you have, including the ways they like to learn. Every dog has their own backstory, personality, and preferred coping mechanisms.
Dogs Hydeia works with
Carsten
Carsten is a big, beautiful Cane Corso/Weimaraner mix. He’s a powerful, playful dog that loves to sniff and explore. Knowing he is a large breed, Hydeia has been working on his leash manners, so he doesn’t drag his family down the street, his recall, so his family doesn’t have to chase him down that same street, and polite greetings with a sit.
Eggroll
Eggroll is a beautiful English Bulldog. This breed typically likes an easy, chill lifestyle, so Eggroll would rather nap and receive pets over agility. Hydeia mainly focuses on keeping training light and fun, while emphasizing fitness and nose work to keep her in shape and stimulating her mentally.
Oliver
Oliver is a energetic Cattle Dog/Border Collie with enough fur to bury you. He can be a lot to handle, constantly barking at new people, pulling on the leash to go faster, and becoming impatient with the slow human on only 2 legs instead of his fast 4 legs. He has even given Hydeia a souvenir marking on her hand with his teeth. Despite all that, Hydeia knows that he is a case of being understimulated. With playful training, good long walks, and extracurricular fun like an Agility classes, he is well on his way to proper companionship.
